BECOMING A VOLUNTEER
The Greater Lewes Community Village invites you to volunteer and support older adults in the community so they can age in a place of their choosing surrounded by their memories, their friends, and their community. The Village welcomes volunteers who may be members or nonmembers who will provide critically important services, build relationships with members and other volunteers. Transportation Program - Driving members to medical appointments, social or cultural events, hairdresser or barbers, grocery stores and running errands. You will assist with grocery shopping, clothing and gift shopping, picking up prescriptions.
In Home Support - minor household organization, pet care, plant care, assisting with managing accounts and balancing check books, minor household repairs.
Friendly Visits - Provide conversation and companionship, respite for a care giver, assisting with puzzles or play a game, share stories, photos, and memories.
Friendly Calls - Volunteers call members who have not used services or attended programs to check on their well-being and spend some time talking with them. The goal being to ensure they are doing well and to suggest they participate in Village programs, events, etc.
Home Maintenance - Change hard to reach light bulbs, hang pictures, check smoke alarms, moving outdoor furniture, simple repairs, minor handyperson services, minor yard work.
Technology - Help with computer, printer, email, programmable thermostats, Smart Phones, and more.
Village Office Assistance - Provide office assistance including answering phones, matching volunteers to service requests, manage emails, data entry, and more.
You decide the type of services or office work you would like to do, the days and hours you would like to volunteer. We appreciate all that you have to offer and we will work with you to find the best fit for your contributions.
How Do I Become a Volunteer
To keep our members safe and allow peace of mind that the best volunteers are serving our members, you will be asked to:
Complete an application
Agree to a background check (background checks will be performed on all potential volunteers. You will be asked to pay the $17.00 fee for the background check once we complete the interview and reference checks. This will include a search of nationwide criminal history, sex offender list, and motor vehicle records). Volunteers who elect to be drivers must provide a current driver’s license and proof of insurance and must keep these current.
We will conduct in person interviews, orientation, training, and more.
